4 SKIN HAIR SYSTEM VENTILATION TECHNIQUES FOR A KNOTLESS APPEARANCE 2025
Hair ventilation is a fundamental process in the creation of wigs and hairpieces. It involves carefully attaching synthetic or human hair to the system’s base, ensuring the hairpiece is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Skin hair systems made from polyurethane (PU) have long been favored for their affordability, ease of wear, and maintenance. They are particularly prized for creating a natural, knotless hairline, which can closely mimic the appearance of hair growing from the scalp.

Today, skin hair systems are usually ventilated in four ways: V-looped, normal or lift injection, and single-split knots. The latest ventilation method is single-split knots to prevent shedding. By understanding these distinct ventilation techniques, you can effectively guide your clients in choosing a hairpiece that maximizes both natural appearance and comfort.

V-Looped Hair
Talking about skin hair system ventilation, V-looping can only be used for skin hairpieces. V-looped hair means a strand of hair that goes through a hole in the skin base and out from another; the hair going in and out will form a v-shaped path, hence its name: V-looped skin hair systems.

After ventilating the entire skin base, it is necessary to seal the roots. Hence, the hair stays well, and the underside of the base touches softly against your client’s scalp, ensuring comfort. Root-sealing applies to all v-looped and injected skin hair systems.

Let’s familiarize ourselves with this term through this given video:
Note: V-looped hair has a natural lift and does not lie flat on the base. Because of this, V-looped hair can be ventilated anywhere across the base and styled freely.
Injected Skin Hair Systems
Skin hair systems with hair injected into the skin are also called inject-skin hair systems. Like the V-looping technique, the injected skin technique can only be used for skin hair systems, but with a stricter condition: the skin base must be thicker than 0.08 mm, or it will be too weak to hold the roots.

A knotless appearance is guaranteed with injected skin hair systems, as the hair is injected into the skin base. However, one advantage injected hair has over V-looped hair is that injected hair doesn’t have return hair.
The hair is injected into the skin base in two ways: normal-injected (or flat-injected) or lift-injected. We’ll cover both:
Normal Injected (Flat Injected) Hair
With a normal injected skin hair system, the artisan will use a ventilation needle to punch a strand of hair into the skin base and repeat the same step until the entire base is fully ventilated.
Once done, he will need to turn the base over and shave the hair roots to the same length. We usually leave the roots a little longer for normal injected hair systems than lift injected ones to ensure the hair stays well.
Brush a layer of polyurethane, and iron the roots down so they lie flat on the underside of the base.
Let’s watch this video for more details:
Note: The roots are ironed down, and the hair on the topside of the base will lie down in the opposite direction, meaning it may be challenging to change hair direction and a little hard to style. However, buzz and crew cuts go well with normal injected hair for a cool, neat, short-hair look.
Lift Injected Hair
Unlike standard flat-injected skin hair systems, lift-injected skin hair systems take the concept further. While the hair is still injected into the base, the key difference lies in how the roots are handled. In this method, the roots are trimmed to a shorter length, which allows the hair to move and change directions more freely, making it easier to style.
Because the roots are kept so short, ironing them down is unnecessary. Instead, a layer of polyurethane is applied to seal the roots in place, and the entire hairpiece is placed in a specialized oven to dry. This process ensures the hair doesn’t lie flat against the topside of the base, resulting in greater flexibility for styling and a more natural appearance overall.
This short video will show you more:
Note: lift-injected hair systems cannot last as long as normal (or flat) injected hair systems, as the hair isn’t deeply rooted into the base and isn’t ironed down. This way, lift-injected skin hair systems are not recommended; only a few factories can make custom-ordered ones for clients who only care about the most natural look and not so much about durability.
Bleached Single-Split Knots by Newtimes Hair

Thinking thin skin hair systems can’t take knots? They can! And it’s even available with 0.03mm skin bases. Thread a strand of hair through a tiny hole in the base and out through another, and do a single-split knot over the upside of the base. This way, it will hardly ever shed. You can also bleach the knots to give a knotless result.
Ventilation Techniques and Skin Thicknesses
Before the ventilation process, one thing to remember is understanding skin thickness. Not all base thicknesses are suitable for all ventilation techniques.
For example, injected hair only applies to skin bases thicker than 0.08 mm. Lift-injected hair systems offer a lift effect; they cannot last as long as v-looped or normal-injected ones. Also, the thicker the base, the higher the density and the longer the hair the base can accommodate.
Besides density, hair length is another factor you need to consider before venting a skin base. Ultra-thin skin hair systems (e.g., 0.03 mm or thinner) can only take hair no longer than 10″ (25.4 cm), as the longer the hair, the heavier it gets, and potentially tears the base. The thicker the base, the longer and denser the hair it can accommodate. All skin bases over 0.08 mm can take any length or density.
Skin Hair Systems Ventilated in Techniques
We’ve just introduced the three most popular ventilation techniques for skin and hair systems. Now, let’s see a few examples.
HS25V features a 0.03mm skin base. When attached, it melds into your client’s scalp, just like a second skin. 100% ethically sourced human hair is v-looped to the base at a density of 100% (light-medium), with no knots showing, just the appearance of natural hair growing from the scalp.
LIGHT03, another thin skin hair system with 100% v-looped human hair at a perfect light density of 80%. Though rare on the market, many clients want it. It’s ideal for the older population seeking a natural, age-consistent look month after month.
HS1V is also a V-looped human hair system boasting a 0.06mm skin base. It can be styled freely. Sports lovers can wear it for 2-3 months. Your clients can do extreme sports like car racing or sky-diving, and the hair system doesn’t go anywhere.
INSEU injected thin skin hair system features a 0.08mm skin base, with 100% exclusively sourced European hair injected into the base for a natural, realistic look. The hair is available in 6″(15cm), 8″(20cm), and 10″(25cm) and the most popular European hair shades. The hair density is 120%, perfect for European clients.
Duro-Ins features a robust 0.1mm skin base with injected human hair and sealed with a layer of gauze. The layer of gauze adds even more strength to the base, making the base much more durable. A scallop-shaped edge ensures the most natural hairline, catering to all your clients’ hairline needs.
HS1E is a game changer! Its 0.12 mm skin base, with knotted human hair that can be freely styled, can last 4 to 6 months. The density can exceed 130% (medium-heavy), tolerating 28cm curls.
